RIO FALESSO
Don't stress That's dumb I'm here And it's nice to be alive ---------------------------------------------------- I
t seemed odd. How people could be so happy. The world wasn't exactly a safe, warm place at the moment. It was cold and dark, full of crime and injustice. A world full of hatred and worry and death and horrid, horrid nightmares. Yet here were all these people smiling and having a good time as they walked throughout the park. Sure, it wasn't exactly a normal day in the park. But still. Today was the start of the three-day festival. Why Pravda was having it, she had no idea. Perhaps it was so people could feel a sense of safety. What a false sense. It was all a lie. A lie conjured up by people desperate to feel a happiness that could no longer be embraced. How foolish.
But who was Rio to criticize?
Rio hadn't been to a festival since she was four. So she couldn't remember once. She vaguely remembered getting purple cotton candy stuck in her hair, but that's all. She had never been to one since, so she had no idea how they worked. Lots of tents were set up all over the park. There were people selling things right and left. Jewelry, books, food, toys. Children ran around laughing and people chatted. It was the scene of a perfect world. Disgusting.
Rio leaned against a tree, licking an ice cream cone. It was strawberry ice cream. Vanilla was disgustingly bland, and chocolate was too rich. She watched people through narrowed eyes, a cynical expression on her face. She sighed as she leaned against the tree, deep in thought. But her thoughts were interrupted by a soft Mew. her eyes blinked wider and she snapped out of her thoughts. "Wah, huh? she looked startled. Here eyes flickered around before looking down. A little kitten sat at her feet, looking up at her with the same happy expression everyone else seemed to be wearing. Rio's eyes softened, "Aw, hello there little kitty." she cooed. The cat was a small white fur ball, indicating that she couldn't be more than a few months old. Rio stooped down and outstretched her hand, ruffling the kittens soft fur. "Hello little boo." she murmured, "What are you doing out here? she scooped up the kitten in her arms, and it meowed contently.
Rio walked over to a bench and took a seat, tossing the last of her ice cream cone into the trash and petting the kitten, who was now squirming around on her lap, with both of her hands. Her black pants were beginning to get littered with white fur. A small smile split across the girl's face. With a loud snap!, Tess came tumbling out of a tree. At the last second, before her gravity could make brutally dump her on the ground, she swiftly changed to a lighter weight, causing her to drift slowly to the ground nearer to a bench than the tree. She brushed the leaves from her hair, fixed her ponytail, and made sure she still had all her limps intact and unbroken.
Head? Check.
Arms and Hands? She wiggled her fingers.
Legs? Definitively still there.
With a grin of triumph, Tess scanned the area to see if anyone noticed. Unfortunately, she found herself practically face-to-face with another girl.
Oh God, what did I do? A sound similar to a strangled bird escaped Tess's lips. She tried to cover it up with a phony sounding laugh. "Er hello there. Didn't see you there. Sorry for dropping in." She lamely joked. Why had she chosen on whim to go to Pravada? Completely stupid. Tess was totally going to hear it from Adam and the rest of the Team Justice people.
What if they kick me out? Tess thought worriedly. That won't happen right? I really hope not.....
As she mentally kicked herself, she noticed the girl's appearance for the first time. And the girl's vibrant blue hair.
"Rio?" Disbelief and relief colored Tess's tone. For a moment her expression was shocked. Then a grin broke across her face. "Rio! Thank God it's you."

Eve clasped her hands around the start of her hood, tugging it back more on to her head. Festivals were...different for her. She came to Pravda to investigate further leads on the Salone's, and one of the locals informed her to join the celebration. Well, he didn't say that exactly. In fact, he tricked her. He said that she would have a much easier time if she went to the square, and so here she was. If she knew the commotion was going to be this loud, and this bright, she would never have come. So for now, she found comfort in her tattered hood. The meta human felt rather out of place. Everyone seemed to dress nicely, had families, or someone to talk to. And she had none. Evelyn looked down at herself in shame. Her shirt was ragged, and her cloak was dirty. Many creases and wrinkles, and the ends were ripped to shreds. She figured most likely do to stray cats, or the ends latching on to something. The latter happened to be more reasonable, it was once her mother's, a tall woman who would wear this coat gracefully. Her mother. Another thing that seemed wrong. All of the little children had loving parents, and she could see the pride glowing in their eyes. All it did was remind her of her loss. She was alone, and needed to find an exit of this hell hole fast. Not only was she emotionally hurting, but physically as well. The bright lights that flicked every so often, delighted squeals from children, and a mix of gasoline and cotton candy was all too overwhelming for the inky-haired girl. Evelyn decided she needed to sit down, so she scanned the area for a bench. Nearby, she spotted a blue haired girl seeming quite frustrated. Was she not happy? Aren't you supposed? Didn't they host things like this for glee and joy? The silver-eyed teen shuffled her feet a bit. She wasn't used to interacting with humans, and as a girl she watched her father make small talk. Would she have to do that? She hoped not. Taking slow steps, she also noticed the teen had something else. A small, fluffy white kitten was cuddling in her arms. Eve smiled a teensy bit. She had a soft spot of animals. The sharp pointed ears reminded her of a black canine she had waiting for back home. Maybe she could even become an acquaintance of the teen. Eve needed more friends in her life. Hiding in an underground house planning your revenge on an international gang doesn't do much for a girl's social life. Attempting more confident steps, she straightened her back and let her face show more through her hood. Nearly about twenty feet away, a girl fell suddenly from tree. Surprised, Eve jumped a bit back. She cursed her senses, knowing if it wasn't so distracting she would have known she was there. The new girl panicked slightly, before a broad grin graced her face, as the two seemed to know each other. Feeling awkward, Eve was torn between embracing them or just stalking off. But her head hurt so bad and she needed to sit down. Eve clasped a necklace her father gave her one year for her birthday. "Be brave...." and made way towards the two girls. io continued to stroke the soft fur of the little kitten, her mind wandering into an empty world of thoughtless wonderings. She just barely noticed when a girl literally dropped from the sky. Startled, Rio uttered a soft scream and jumped, the kitten looking up in alarm. But she quickly relaxed when she saw who it was. "Oh my god, Tess. Heart. Attack. What were you doing in a tree?" Rio was grinning despite the fact that she had been caught completely off guard. She hadn't seen Tess in ages; it was good to see a familiar face. "Nice to know you're so happy to see me. What're you doing out here?" Well, the same could be asked of her, but whatever.
Rio leaned back against the back of the bench, letting out a sigh. She hadn't been planning on meeting up with someone today. Not that she didn't want to see Tess. On the contrary, she was thrilled to see another member of the Team.
She ran her fingers through her blue hair, feeling tired. The kitten mewed, looking curiously at Tess. Rio didn't feel nearly as tall when she was around her. Tess was one of the few people near her height. In fact, Tess was around an inch, maybe an inch and a half, taller than Rio. That bugged her, but she didn't voice the irritation she felt being around another girl taller than her.
Rio looked around at the scene in front of her again real quick, not noticing anything abnormal. Until a girl caught her eye. The girl was dressed rather darkly, which always made Rio assume they were bad, but she tried not to judge this girl as she watched her approach her and Tess. Tess winced. "Sorry." She said, her grin returning after a few seconds.
"In the tree?" She repeated. "Right, long story short, I kind of, jumped, I guess, here all the way from Center City. Definitively took most of the morning but, here I am! As to why, well, I heard there was a fair going on and wanted to come. I landed in the tree, trying for a stealthy landing but the branch I was sitting on snapped when I took on my normal gravity. So yeah."
Tess smiled at the kitten. It mewed at her. Taking this as encouragement, she crouched down, and scratched the cat behind it's ears. She loved cats, not as much as dogs, nor to the point of them being her favorite animal, but she still liked them.
When she heard Rio sigh, Tess looked up to look at the other girl. Rio was running a hand through her hair and was looking fairly tired. Before she could think, Tess found that she was suddenly saying, "You okay Rio? You look kind of tired."
In the second that passed the statement, Tess realized how bad that sounded. "I mean, you still look good, I mean, pretty like you always do. I just mean... Er.. Don't take that statement the wrong way, okay?" She hastened to correct before giving up. Sometimes, her mouth seemed to be an independent part of her body.
Tess slapped her face with a loud sound. "I'll shut up now." She promised. A red palm shaped mark was taking form on her forehead.
However, that lasted for about a minute, in which Tess noticed the girl edging towards Rio and herself. The face underneath the hood had a Mediterranean look with bright grey eyes. The girl was clad in a dark hood type cloak, looking very post-apocalyptic. Even though it was tattered, Tess immediately loved the hood and wondered where she could get one.
It was no surprise to her when, seeming on it's own accord, her mouth started moving. "HEY!" Tess yelled, giving the girl a weird two fingered wave. "I like your hoodie!"

While Eve wandered over, she noticed the new girl chatting hyper-actively, with a bright smile. A skeptical look was passed at her from the blue-haired girl. She stopped dead in her tracks, eyes wide. "Did she not want me here?" The girl's gaze lightened, and Eve swallowed the lump in her throat. The other girl shouted out a friendly "HEY!" to her, tagged along with a two-fingered wave. The archer took it as in invitation to sit. A small, but warm smile was placed on her lips. "I like your hoodie!" Self-consciously, Evelyn's fingers went up to her hood, and pulled it down to reveal her full face.
"Your compliment was very much appreciated," she paused for a moment before continuing. "I-I made it myself." A faint blush rose to her cheeks at her work. "It isn't all that great." She paused once more, picking out the flaws in the hood. "See, the seams here are stitched incorrectly, and the cuff is a bit shorter than the other. And the ends are tattered..." she pouted slightly "But I made it for my mother when I was little. I'm so-sorry, I was rambling a bit."
The black-haired girl mentally smacked herself. Her father told her that first impressions are key, and she just made herself appear as a rambling lunatic. She kept her face cool and distant, no matter how much she was internally battling with herself. Eve thought about making a mad dash out of there to save herself from future embarrassment. But something kept her there, she couldn't place it exactly. Her first guess was fear, but looking at the two they seemed harmless. Just two girls accompanying each other at a nice festival, along with an out of place vigilante. There's been weirder things, right?

RIO FALESSO

io nodded, grinning at Tess' story. Typical of her, haha. She was always doing stuff like that. The kitten blinked it's blue eyes up at Rio and then Tess, licking Tess' hand. Rio scratched thew kitty behind her ears, and the kitten started to purr as she was now being petted by two people. "This is... uh, Boo." Rio spontaneously named the cat, deciding then and there that she would take the white kitten home.
The next question flown towards Rio made her smile warily, "Yeah, I'm fine, just tired like you said. It's been a long day." she shook her head, "It's fine, it's fine. No need to slap yourself for it!" she shook her head again.
She resumed her staring off into space, her hand mindlessly stroking Boo. Her daydreaming was startled, however, by Tess calling out to the girl Rio had been glancing at. Her eyes drifted back on the girl, who had just removed her hood. Her eyes scanned her facial features. She was a pretty girl, not looking at all as Rio had expected her to look. She smiled at her, almost encouragingly, and beckoned the girl to come closer, "It's a very nice hoodie, despite the fact that it was made when you were young." Any offense the girl may have taken out of her words went unnoticed by the oblivious Rio, who was still smiling. Had she not been less tired, she probably would appear more friendly towards the girl.

"Boo's a nice name." Tess said, thinking of the old animation film, Monsters Inc., and the little girl with the pig tails. She had loved that movie at the age of six, and still did. She missed the time when her mother and father and sister would sit down with her and watch things. She missed her family. Period. Even though she still had them, they were almost never there for her; preoccupied with work (her father) or deciding that now that she was grown, their help was needed in other, more desperate places (her mother), or growing up (her sister Rachel).
Tess shook her melancholy, dropping down into the present with an unpleasant thump. She straightened her ponytail, and tried to listen to what Rio was saying.
"Yeah, I'm fine, just tired like you said. It's been a long day. It's fine, it's fine. No need to slap yourself for it!"
Shrugging, Tess gave Rio a small sheepish smile. "Sorry." She apologized. "Force of habit." In dealing with all the idiots and jock straps at the boarding school I attend, she added in her head.
Tess waved away the girl's modesty. "Oh please." She smiled. "I can't notice a single flaw you just pointed out. It's amazing and you'll just have to deal with the compliment because I'm not taking it back."
In noticing how rude her comment, yet again, was, Tess sighed. "I apologize for my awful conversational habits and any future rude sayings in advance."
"By the way, I'm Theresa Natalie Smith, although that's a mouth load, and I go by Tess. This here is Rio Lynn Falesso. Otherwise known as the fabulous Ri-ri. This white kitty is Boo. What is you're name, oh wonderful hoodie-maker?" The left side of her mouth lifted as she spoke.
